Books I've read in 2010 14-19 - Cranford, A Tale of Two Cities, Wilma Tenderfoot (x3) and Vanity Fair
I managed to blog about the first 13 books I read in 2010. I then acquired a kindle and in November and December I had the busiest time at work I've ever known. These two facts impacted on my reading habits. The Kindle gave me almost unlimited choice and being super busy at work left me little reading time. So here are my thoughts on the last 5 books. All were read on the Kindle - which I LOVE.
Book 14 - Cranford - Elizabeth Gaskell
Famous for being on BBC1 with Judi Dench, Imelda Staunton et al. I really enjoyed it though I do wish I'd read it before I'd seen the tv show as the images are hard to shake. However the characterisations on TV were fairly accurate so it didn't detract too much and the stories were mixed up and changed for TV so it wasn't as if I knew exactly what was going to happen when.
Book 15 - A Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens
I haven't read much of Dickens and so I've take the opportunity the Kindle has presented and downloaded a few "classics". I went for "A Tale of Two Cities" and I really liked it. I cried (obviously) and right at the end I realised that I knew what was going to happen so I think I must have seen it on the telly when I was young.
Books 16, 17 and 18 Wilma Tenderfoot and the case of the Frozen Hearts, Wilma Tenderfoot and the case of the Putrid Poison and Wilma Tenderfoot and the Case of the Fatal Phantom - Emma Kennedy
I loved these three books which I read back to back. They are children's books but I really liked them and they are written so that adults will enjoy them. Wilma is an orphan who dreams of being a detective on Cooper Island. She gets in to all sorts of scrapes with her dog Pickle and Cooper Island's world famous detective Theodore P. Goodman. I like detective novels in general and these are funny and engaging.
Book 19 - Vanity Fair - William Makepeace Thackeray
This is another book I've downloaded as part of my Kindle classics download. I'll admit that I haven't actually finished it yet so it isn't really a book of 2010, but I did start it in December so I think it counts.
